Paris on fire Homage to Zyed Benna and Bouna Traoré
Biennale di Venezia -
29.08.2010

Two adolescents Zyed Benna und Bouna Traoré tempt to escape the police by hiding in a transformer. They die by electrocution on the 27th of October 2005 in Clichy sous bois, a Parisian suburb.
Street riots are the consequence. Cars burn. As background social housing buildings from the 70ies.

Social ghettos, monofunctional residential blocks, desolate open spaces, neglected infrastructures.
Anonymous halls, small flats without balconies, badly exposed, no acoustic insulation.

What can architecture offer? How responsible is architecture?
